Naples Fishing Marco Island Fishing. As we approach mid summer the fishing is holding up well. Snook are in the passes, beaches and some of the backcountry spots, some small to mid size tarpon are around and goliath grouper and sharks are to be had.
The gulf water is still very clear depending on the tide. The higher tides bring in the nice turquoise blue water and push the backcountry tannin colored water into the backcountry. This is great for sight fishing especially along the beaches for snook. Sharks and mackerel have been around the beaches.
The annual tarpon migration is winding down but there are still a few round. Yesterday while looking for tarpon on the sandy shoals south of Naples we saw a rare sawfish cruising the flats. He must have been 8′ long. Very cool.
Some of the off-shore wrecks are holding goliath grouper 70 pounds and up. While fishing for the grouper I sometimes float a crab under a float for permit.
Overall a good time of year to get on the water and go fishin’.
