Fishing report December 5, 2015

Had a banner week last week in lieu of the stiff NE wind and the weak front early in the week brought in some tarpon.
Business this time of year can be a little up and down but not Thanksgiving week, booked straight through – thanks guys.
As can happen this time of year there is both off-shore and backcountry fishing options. Because of the tides and the wind my routine last week was to run down the beach towards Marco fishing for Bonita and Kingfish, head into Hurricane Pass for some tarpon and Bluefish action then into the backcountry for snook, redfish, flounder, jacks, gag and goliath grouper and snapper.
I had great clients, some fly fished and some spin fished. The bonita fishing can be challenging as they are chasing and bustin’ baits in one spot, you race over and then there in another spot. It’s a real run and gun adventure but as I say “nothin’ fights like a Bonita”.
We fish for the Kingfish differently. We anchor up over a wreck then throw plugs or free line live bait. They’re also real screamers.
Going forward, if the next cold front falls on the right tides I should have one more chance at the tarpon before they split till early spring. The backcountry fishing will continue to improve as more fish move into their winter haunts.
Christmas week I will book up so if your thinking of fishing that week give me a call so we can look at tides etc, 239-450-9230.
Here’s a few pics from recent trips – Capt. Mark.
